Uttarakhand's most popular winter summit trek — at roughly ~3,810 m (summit).
Kedarkantha is a summit trek starting from Sankri village in the Govind National Park buffer zone, widely considered one of the best beginner-friendly winter treks in India because of its reliable snowfall, well-defined trail and 360-degree summit views of the Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch ranges.
It's a trek rather than a hill-station destination — there's no road access to the summit — so most of what matters (route, altitude, difficulty) is covered on our dedicated trek page.
~500 km to Sankri via Dehradun and Mori (10–12 hours by road), usually broken with an overnight in Dehradun.
~200 km to Sankri via Mussoorie and Mori (8–9 hours by road) — our Kedarkantha departures start from here.
The Kedarkantha summit trek itself, exploring Sankri village, and optional side trips to Juda Ka Talab, a frozen alpine lake en route.
Consistently cold in peak season, often well below freezing at night on the higher camps; daytime can still be sunny and comfortable while walking.
See our Kedarkantha trek page for the full itinerary, difficulty grading and current pricing.
Guesthouses in Sankri before and after the trek; tented camps at Juda Ka Talab and base camp during the trek itself.
Yes — it's widely regarded as one of the more approachable Himalayan winter treks, though basic fitness prep is still needed.
No, but you do need reasonable fitness and the right cold-weather gear — see our trek page for the full checklist.
