Chopta is roughly 460 km from Delhi, and there's no direct train or flight anywhere near it — so getting there always means a combination of a longer journey to Rishikesh/Rudraprayag followed by a mountain road. Here's how travellers usually do it.
Delhi → Rishikesh → Rudraprayag → Ukhimath → Chopta is roughly 460 km and 10–11 hours of driving. Most people don't do this in one push — breaking the journey overnight in Rishikesh or Dehradun is far more comfortable.
Several overnight trains connect Delhi to Haridwar and Rishikesh. From there, it's roughly 200 km and 7–8 hours by road to Chopta — this is the route our Dehradun-based departures effectively mirror, just starting a little further along.
Delhi to Dehradun is a short flight, followed by the same ~210 km, 7–8 hour road journey to Chopta via Rishikesh and Rudraprayag. This is the fastest option if time matters more than budget.
Rishikesh and Dehradun are the two most common overnight stops — both let you start the mountain stretch of the drive fresh and in daylight, which matters on the winding roads past Rudraprayag.
The stretch from Rudraprayag to Ukhimath and on to Chopta is a genuine mountain road — narrow, winding, and best driven in daylight. It can be affected by landslides in the monsoon months (Jul–Aug).
Not typically direct — most travellers take a bus or train to Rishikesh/Rudraprayag and continue by shared or private vehicle from there.
Budget 10–11 hours if driving straight through, though we'd recommend breaking it into two days.
We don't recommend it — the mountain stretch past Rudraprayag is best driven in daylight.
