Uttarakhand doesn't have one single “best” season — it has several good ones, each suited to a different kind of trip. Here's how to match the season to what you actually want to do.
Rhododendron blooms at mid-altitude destinations like Chopta, pleasant daytime temperatures across most hill stations, and the start of the trekking season for many routes. This is peak season for a reason — expect more crowds at popular spots.
Generally avoided for high-altitude treks (trails get slippery, some roads face landslide risk), but this is exactly when the Valley of Flowers blooms and when destinations like Rishikesh see the Ganga at its fullest. Waterfalls near Chakrata and Dhanaulti are also at their best.
Widely considered the best window for Himalayan visibility — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and stable trail conditions make this a strong choice for both trekking and sightseeing trips.
Snow season for treks like Kedarkantha and for skiing at Auli, and a quieter, colder version of hill stations like Mussoorie. Not the season for high-altitude treks like Valley of Flowers, which stays closed through winter.
There isn't one — October–November is best for clear mountain views generally, but January is best if you specifically want a snow trek, and July–August is when the Valley of Flowers blooms.
Many lower-altitude destinations are fine, but road conditions on mountain routes can be affected — check current conditions before travelling to high-altitude areas Jul–Aug.
Generally the shoulder months just before or after peak season (early March, late November) see fewer tourists while keeping reasonable weather.
